A beautiful river valley with a lower section hardly less spectacular than Dovedale. Part of the valley is a cycle track and there is a Manifold Valley Visitor Centre at Old Hulme End Station.

The pub at Hulme End is also worth a visit.
Thor’s cave is in a prominent spur 350 ft above the river and can be seen for miles around. There have been many objects of archaeological interest found here showing it to be inhabited by early man and prehistoric animals. The entrance is 60 ft wide and you can scramble to its entrance, climb through it and admire the view.
At Beeston the Manifold is joined by the River Hamps and just below this lies Beeston Tor, one of the largest and most spectacular limestone crags of the area.
