The Tissington Trail runs along a 13 mile route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay. At this point it joins the High Peak Trail. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for cyclists and walkers. It is suitable for wheel chairs and pushchairs along the flat sections and you can access the trail every day of the year and it will not cost you a penny. During all seasons of the year there are stunning views and in the spring and summer wild flowers are in abundance.
The Tissington Trail is mostly flat, well surfaced and there is a car park and a seasonal cycle hire centre just north of Ashbourne. Refreshments are also available. Further up the trail there is a small car park at Thorpe and you can leave the trail here to visit Dovedale. Soon after leaving Thorpe you reach Tissington with a larger car park and picnic area.
Tissington is one of the prettiest and most unspoilt villages in Derbyshire and the whole country. Tissington Hall is a fine Jacobean Manor House in the heart of the village that has been the home of the FitzHerbert family for 500 years. It is open to the public for guided tours and there is also a lovely café/dining room here.
